Broadway is in Massachusetts July 6 as Tanglewood presents Broadway Today! Broadway's Modern Masters, a concert evening dedicated to contemporary Broadway songwriters. Jason Danieley is directing, with George Stitt serving as music supervisor. Keith Lockhart is leading the Boston Pops Orchestra from the podium.
And performing is a roster of starry Broadway favorites, including Tony winner Victoria Clark, Mandy Gonzalez, Joshua Henry, Darius de Haas, Bryce Pinkham, and Scarlett Strallen.
Audiences can expect to hear songs from such musicals as Hamilton, In the Heights, The Light in the Piazza, Kimberly Akimbo, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, The Band's Visit, and Dear Evan Hansen, among others.
Nestled in the Berkshires, Tanglewood is the summer home of the Boston Pops, where the ensemble is joined by a host of internationally known musicians for a series of performances spanning most music genres. Audiences have the choice of getting traditional seating in the covered theatre or lawn tickets for the large stretch of grass behind it. Lawn festival goers are invited to bring picnics, but some go so far as to bring remarkably elaborate setups including tables, tents, and even chandeliers.
Tickets for the 8 PM evening concert and a 10:30 AM open rehearsal are available at BSO.org.
