Aaron Sorkin's adaptation of To Kill A Mockingbird will not return to Broadway as previously planned. The production played its final Broadway performance January 16, 2022, with a run of 626 performances and 45 previews. The news, initially reported by ShowBiz411, was confirmed with further details by The New York Times.

The production, which opened at Broadway's Shubert Theatre in 2018, had announced a six month closure this past January to prepare for a move to the Belasco Theatre.

The decision to cancel the move and re-opening reportedly came from the production's former producer Scott Rudin, who was ousted from the production following reports of abuse to his employees.

Tony nominee Jeff Daniels (Sorkin's The Newsroom) originally took on the central role of Atticus Finch in the staging, which frames the Alabama-set story as a memory play as Finch's daughter Scout recalls the 1930s trial in which her father defended a Black man accused of raping a white girl. Celia Keenan-Bolger won a Tony Award creating the role of Scout on Broadway. Read opening night reviews here.

The final company of To Kill a Mockingbird included Baize Buzan as Scout, Greg Kinnear as Atticus, Portia as Calpurnia, Hunter Parrish as Jem Finch, Michael Braugher as Tom Robinson, Russell Harvard as Link Deas, Neal Huff as Bob Ewell, Mariah Lee as Mayella Ewell, Noah Robbins as Dill Harris, Zachary Booth as Horace Gilmer, Gordon Clapp as Judge John Taylor, Patricia Conolly as Mrs. Dubose, Christopher Innvar as Sheriff Heck Tate, Ted Koch as Mr. Cunningham, and Amelia McClain as Miss Stephanie.

The ensemble included Scout Backus, Ian Bedford, Rosalyn Coleman, Anne-Marie Cusson, Michael Bryan French, Steven Lee Johnson, Tyler Lea, Geoffrey Allen Murphy, Luke Smith, Yaegel T. Welch, and William Youmans.

To Kill a Mockingbird began performances November 1, 2018, and opened December 13. The adaptation of Harper Lee's novel recouped its original investment 19 weeks after opening.

The staging features sets by Miriam Buether, costumes by Ann Roth, lighting design by Jennifer Tipton, sound design by Scott Lehrer, and an original score by Adam Guettel.
