Boston's Huntington and SpeakEasy Stage have partnered to co-produce a new production of The Band's Visit, which features music and lyrics by David Yazbek and book by Itamar Moses, as part of their 2023-2024 seasons.
Staged in the newly renovated Huntington Theatre, The Band’s Visit will run November 10–December 10, with direction by SpeakEasy Founder and Artistic Director Paul Daigneault.
The Band’s Visit won 10 Tony Awards in 2018, including Best Musical, and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album in 2019. This co-production will mark the first time that SpeakEasy Stage and The Huntington have jointly staged a production, although the two companies have been longtime collaborators.
The work centers on an Egyptian police orchestra accidentally stranded in an Israeli desert town and the unexpected bonds that form over their single day there. Based on Eran Kolirin's 2007 film of the same name, the musical premiered at Off-Broadway's Atlantic Theater Company before opening on Broadway in 2017.
Casting and additional creative team information will be announced at a later date, in addition to ticketing information.
