Broadway News Tatianna Córdoba and Justina Machado Will Lead Real Women Have Curves Musical on Broadway

The full creative team for the musical adaptation, which begins April 1 at the James Earl Jones Theatre, has also been announced.

Initial casting has been revealed for the upcoming Broadway musical Real Women Have Curves. Based on Josefina López's play, the new musical will begin performances April 1 at the James Earl Jones Theatre with an official opening set for April 27.

Newcomer Tatianna Córdoba will make her Broadway debut as ambitious high school senior Ana Garcia, joined by Justina Machado (One Day at a Time) as Carmen Garcia, Ana’s hardworking mother who imagines a traditional life for her daughter. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

The project is being helmed by Sergio Trujillo, who's directing and choreographing. The musical is adapted from López's 1993 play, which also had a 2002 film version. With a score by Joy Huerta and Benjamin Velez and a book by Lisa Loomer with Nell Benjamin, the work follows a first-generation child of Mexican immigrants torn between joining the family garment business or embarking on her own dream of attending college in NYC.

The production will also have music supervision by Nadia DiGiallonardo, music direction by Roberto Sinha, scenic design by Arnulfo Maldonado, costume design by Wilberth Gonzalez and Paloma Young, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by John Shivers, video design by Hana S. Kim, hair, wig, and make-up design by Krystal Balleza, and orchestrations by DiGiallonardo, Huerta, Rich Mercurio, and Velez.

Tripp Phillips will serve as production stage manager, B.J. Holt as general manager, and Alecia Parker as executive producer.

Led by Fran and Barry Weissler and Jack Noseworthy, the producing team also includes Peggy Koenig, Stan Ponte, John Gore Organization, Ira Pittelman, Stacie and Steven Weisbrot, Michael Valdes, Michael P.
