Take a look at the Anna Deavere Smith's Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992, presented by American Repertory Theater and in association with Signature Theatre, which runs at the Loeb Drama Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts through September 24.
Smith's work was inspired the events following the acquittal of the police officers brought to trial for the brutal beating of Rodney King. Called alternately "a riot" and "a revolution," the events led to Smith's investigation into the nature of social unrest and the particular social currents which contributed to the real-world events that inspired Twilight. Smith used interviews with over 350 Los Angelinos to create the Tony-nominated and Obie-winning work, which she revised last year for a five-person cast while in residence at Signature Theatre.
Taibi Magar directs the production, leading the creative team which is comprised of scenic designer Riccardo Hernandez, costume designer Linda Cho, lighting designer Alan C. Edwards, sound designer Darron L. West, projection designer David Bengali, movement coach Michael Leon Thomas, dialect designer Amy Stoller, sensitivity specialist Ann James, and production stage managers Linda Marvel, Melanie J. Lisby.
