Broadway's Suffs will play its final performance January 5, 2025. The move makes the musical the first to announce a closing for the Sunday after New Years, typically "Black Sunday" on the Main Stem. As of the final performance, the musical will have played 24 previews and 301 regular performances at the Music Box Theatre.
But the show is not completely going away! The Best Musical nominee will keep marching on when it launches a national tour from Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre in September 2025, with further details to be announced.
“Bringing the story of the suffs to the stage has been an honor and we are deeply grateful to our cast and company,” says producers Jill Furman and Rachel Sussman in a statement. “Watching audiences encounter the inspiring women of Suffs, many of whom they had never heard of before, has been extremely profound, especially in this election season. We are thrilled to have played a part in giving new life to the suffragists' fight for the vote through Shaina Taub's award-winning book and score and look forward to sharing it with audiences across the country.”
The musical, which opened April 18 following a 2022 world premiere run at Off-Broadway's Public Theater, is written by and stars Shaina Taub, who won two 2024 Tony Awards for the work's book and score. The show was nominated for six categories overall, including Best Musical. Hillary Clinton and Malala Yousafzai are also co-producers.

Set in the years leading up to the 19th amendment, Suffs explores the Women's Suffrage movement's victories and failures. Taub stars as Alice Paul, alongside Tony winner Nikki M. James (The Book of Mormon) as Ida B. Wells, Tony nominee Jenn Colella (Come From Away) as Carrie Chapman Catt, Grace McLean (Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812) as President Woodrow Wilson, Hannah Cruz as Inez Milholland, Kim Blanck as Ruza Wenclawska, Anastacia McCleskey (Waitress) as Mary Church Terrell, Ally Bonino as Lucy Burns, Tsilala Brock as Dudley Malone, Nadia Dandashi as Doris Stevens, and Tony nominee Emily Skinner (Side Show) as Alva Belmont/Phoebe Burn.
Director Leigh Silverman directed both the Off-Broadway world premiere and the Broadway bow, the latter of which features a largely new creative team. Aside from returning music supervisor and music director Andrea Grody, the Broadway creative team includes Suffs newcomers choreographer Mayte Natalio, scenic designer Riccardo Hernández, costume designer Paul Tazewell, lighting designer Lap Chi Chu, sound designer Jason Crystal, and orchestrator Michael Starobin. 101 Productions is the general manager
