Regional News Stephanie J. Block Will Be Norma Desmond in Kennedy Center's Sunset Boulevard, Part of 2022-2023 Season

The musical will be one of three offerings in the Broadway Center Stage series, and the season will also include Norm Lewis in the tour of A Soldier's Play.

Tony winner Stephanie J. Block (The Cher Show) will play former silent screen star Norma Desmond in the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts' 2023 production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard.

The limited engagement will be one of three musicals presented in the return of the Broadway Center Stage series during the Kennedy Center's 2022-2023 Theater Season. The musical, based on the Billy Wilder film of the same name, will play the Eisenhower Theater February 1-6. Additional casting and creative team will be announced at a later time.

The Broadway Center Stage series will also include the classic musical Guys and Dolls (October 11–16 in the Eisenhower, directed by Marc Bruni) and John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Terrence McNally’s Kiss of the Spider Woman (May 15–21, 2023, in the Eisenhower).

The national tour of Wicked will fly back into the Opera House December 8–January 22, 2023, and the tour of the Pulitzer Prize–winning drama A Soldier’s Play, starring Tony nominee Norm Lewis (Porgy and Bess), will take residence in the Eisenhower December 13–January 8, 2023. 

Other touring productions heading to the D.C. venue in the upcoming season: Cameron Mackintosh’s production of Boublil & Schönberg’s Les Misérables (April 11-29, 2023 in the Opera House), Disney's Tony-winning The Lion King (June 21-July 29, 2023 in the Opera House), Diane Paulus’ new production of the Tony–winning musical 1776 (June 17–July 16, 2023 in the Eisenhower), the international hit comedy The Play That Goes Wrong (July 18-August 13, 2023 in the Eisenhower), and the Tony-winning Moulin Rouge! The Musical  (August 2-September 24, 2023 in the Opera House).

Kennedy Center Theater for Young Audiences will also present The Day You Begin, a musical version of Jacqueline Woodson’s bestseller, adapted by Woodson and composer Toshi Reagon; and a musical adaptation of Mary Winn Heider's The Mortification of Fovea Munson by Heider and Justin Huertas. Also for families: Bluey’s Big Play, an adaptation of the Emmy-winning children's show, will play the Eisenhower November 22–27.
