June 7: The Broadway-aimed The SpongeBob Musical begins performances at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago. The production is co-conceived and directed by Tina Landau (Superior Donuts, Bells Are Ringing), which choreography by Tony winner Christopher Gattelli (Newsies). 

LAST CHANCE

June 5: American Psycho, the story of notorious wall street serial killer Patrick Bateman, closes on Broadway. The Duncan Sheik and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa musical is nominated for two Tony Awards and stars Benjamin Walker in the lead role, along with Tony winner Alice Ripley and Tony nominee Jennifer Damiano.

June 11: Don't miss Jeff Daniels and Michelle Williams in David Harrower's Olivier Award-winning drama Blackbird, in which the pain of a past relationship is shockingly brought to the surface.

OPENING

June 6: The return engagement of An Act of God officially opens on Broadway, this time starring Golden Globe nominee Sean Hayes.

June 7: 2 Broke Girls' Beth Behrs stars in MCC's world premiere of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New York City by Halley Feiffer, about two strangers who meet in a hospital.

SPECIAL EVENTS

June 3: Stars in the Alley, the free outdoor concert returns to Shubert Alley in Times Square, hosted by Sean Hayes and Mo Rocca. The two-hour event features performances from more than 30 shows including The Color Purple, The Phantom of the Opera, Fiddler on the Roof and Wicked.

June 3, 4 and 6: Sara Bareilles, Tituss Burgess, Darren Criss, Rebel Wilson and John Stamos headline the star-studded cast of Disney's The Little Mermaid at the Hollywood Bowl for three nights only.

June 6: Broadway Inspirational Voices celebrate their annual gala Night of Broadway Stars at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall. Under the direction of Newsies’ Jeff Calhoun, the evening features guest performances by six-time Tony winner Audra McDonald, Billy Porter, Capathia Jenkins and more. The Broadway stars are paired with homeless youth from The Covenant House who have participated in BIV’s outreach program, and are also performing.

June 6: The sixth annual Night Of A Thousand Judys returns to Merkin Concert Hall to benefit The Ali Forney Center. The concert, honoring Judy Garland, features skits, tributes and songs from the likes of Lillias White, Annie Golden, Alice Ripley, Nathan Lee Graham and more.

June 7: Williamsburg’s Brick Theatre launches the Trans Theatre Festival. The Brooklyn theatre has partnered with co-curators MJ Kaufman and Maybe Burke to launch the inaugural event, made up of new plays, a musical, panel discussions, dance pieces, film and other media created by trans artists in celebration of their experiences.
