Are you ready to rumble? The Perfect Game: A Slam Dunk New Musical will premiere Off-Broadway January 19 at Theatre Row, for a run through January 27.
Featuring an original book, music and lyrics by John Grissmer, direction by Danny Salles (Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List), choreography by Ashley Marinelli (Stranger Sings), music direction by Matthew Stephens (The Body Politic), and arrangements and music supervision by Russ Kassoff (Twyla Tharp’s Come Fly Away), the musical will officially open January 21.
The musical comedy weaves together the life of Jim Naismith, the man who wrote the original basketball rulebook, with the modern day lives of two basketball coaches struggling with personal and professional issues. When Jim and his wife, Maud, enter the modern world to help the two coaches get back on track and rediscover their love of the game, the quad join forces to prepare for the final match of the season.
Anthony Sagaria (Wicked, Disney’s Frozen) will star as basketball inventor, Jim Naismith, alongside David Beach (Something Rotten, It’s Only a Play), Tyler Belo (Hamilton), Nick Bernardi (Annie), Milena J. Comeau (The Outsiders), Jesse Lynn Harte (Legally Blonde), Akina Kitazawa (New York, New York), Alec Ludacka (Kinky Boots), Steve McCoy (Spamalot), Lukas Poost (Unlock’d), Elena Ricardo (Beautiful), Jamal Shuriah (Shout Sister Shout), Danielle J. Summons (Baby), Scott Whipple, and EJ Zimmerman (Les Misérables).
David Goldstein will be the scenic designer, Matthew Solomon will be the costume designer, Andrew Garvis and Jamie Roderick will be the co-lighting designers, and Brendan McCann will be the production props designer. William Spinnato will be the production stage manager, Miranda Shaffer will be the assistant stage manager, Tuan Malinowski will be the associate director, and Brian Nelson will be the associate choreographer.
The Perfect Game is executive produced and general managed by Visceral Entertainment. Casting is by Daryl Eisenberg of Eisenberg Casting, and the associate producer is Joseph Fusco.
