Complete casting has been announced for MCC Theater's one-night-only benefit reading of Neil LaBute’s Fat Pig, directed by the playwright and featuring a never-before-seen ending.
As previously reported, the March 5 staging at the Lucille Lortel Theatre will be led by Golden Globe nominee Chrissy Metz, the breakout star from the NBC drama This Is Us. Metz will be joined at the 7 PM reading by John Mulaney, recently of Broadway’s Oh, Hello; Netflix’s LukeCage star Mike Colter; and Ari Graynor, currently appearing in MCC’s acclaimed production of Yen. The benefit reading will be directed by Andrew McCarthy, who starred in the original MCC production of Fat Pig.
Fat Pig had its world premiere at MCC in 2004. The play traces the relationship between Tom and Helen, who is bright, funny, sexy, and plus-sized. “Forced to explain his new relationship to his friends who think that size does matter, Tom faces an impossible choice,” read production notes.
LaBute, who is currently a resident playwright at MCC, continues his 15-year collaboration with the Off-Broadway theatre. He has debuted 10 of his plays with the organization, including his most recent, All the Ways to Say I Love You. The Off-Broadway production starred Judith Light as a teacher looking back at a watershed moment in her life.
