Ryan McCartan, previously seen on Broadway as Hans in Disney's Frozen and Fiyero in the long-running Wicked, will step into the leading role of Jay Gatsby in Broadway's The Great Gatsby beginning January 21, 2025.
McCartan will succeed Jeremy Jordan, who will play his final performance at the Broadway Theatre January 19.
Based on the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, The Great Gatsby features music and lyrics by Nathan Tysen (Paradise Square) and Jason Howland (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) and a book by Jonathan Larson Grant winner Kait Kerrigan (The Mad Ones). Marc Bruni (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) directs with choreography by Dominique Kelley (Mariah’s Magical Christmas Special).
Set in the Roaring '20s, the musical follows eccentric millionaire Jay Gatsby, who will stop at nothing in his tragic pursuit of Daisy Buchanan, a wealthy young woman whom he loved in his youth.
The Broadway cast is led by Jordan (Newsies) as Jay Gatsby and Eva Noblezada (Hadestown) as Daisy Buchanan with Noah J. Ricketts (Frozen) as Nick Carraway, Sara Chase (The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) as Myrtle, Samantha Pauly (Six) as Jordan Baker, John Zdrojeski (Good Night Oscar) as Tom Buchanan, Charlie Pollock (Urinetown) as George Wilson, and Eric Anderson (Moulin Rouge! The Musical) as Wolfsheim.
The Great Gatsby will also kick off the Centennial Celebration of the novel January 16, when the musical hosts a benefit in partnership with The New York Public Library, honoring the centennial of the novel’s publishing. The evening will begin with a gala performance starring Jordan and Noblezada, culminating with a party at The New York Public Library, with all proceeds benefiting The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. The evening will also toast the final performance week for original star Jordan and the passing of the torch to McCartan.

The new musical won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical.
