She's come hoooommmmeeee at last—and this time, she'll be staying for a while. Sunset Blvd. star Nicole Scherzinger is expected to stay on Broadway for at least nine months, according to the star in an article with Interview magazine. As Scherzinger told her interviewer, Tony winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, she will perform "seven shows a week for over nine months," putting her departure date sometime in July.
Sunset Blvd is currently on sale through July 6. Said Scherzinger in the interview, "I’m ready for my life to be changed because I want to lean into that [theatre] community. I’m a bit of an introvert. Like I said, I’m Norma living in this tormented mind of mine. But when I came recently to do the Tonys, I felt that community, and I didn’t always have that in my life. I felt like people got me and they weren’t looking down at me like, 'Who does she think she is?'"
When it was rumored that Sunset was coming to Broadway, initial reports said that Scherzinger would be with the show for six months. But this nine-month run will take the actor through Tony Awards season—Scherzinger won an Olivier Award when she did the show in the West End so it's no surprise she's interested in a Tony to match it.
The Jamie Lloyd-directed revival of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Sunset Boulevard opened October 20 at the St. James Theatre. Read what the critics had to say here.
In this second Broadway revival to Sunset, Scherzinger plays faded screen star Norma Desmond in a modern-dress and live-video-heavy revival. Tom Francis plays ill-fated screenwriter Joe Gillis, Grace Hodgett-Young plays aspiring writer Betty Schaefer, and David Thaxton plays devoted butler Max Von Mayerling. Mandy Gonzalez plays Norma Desmond once a week, while Caroline Bowman is the stand-by for Norma.
