Wicked has turned 20, and thank goodness for that!
In celebration of the auspicious anniversary, Wicked featured a number of special Playbills throughout October. These limited edition Playbills featured special covers only available to audience members at special anniversary performances—until now. Purchase one or all of the limited edition 20th anniversary Wicked Playbills now exclusively in The Playbill Store.
Most limited were two special pink and green–themed performances October 28, which featured covers spotlighting original stars Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel; and October 30's starry green carpet anniversary celebration. Wicked began previews on Broadway October 8, 2003, at the Gershwin with an official opening October 30. The original cast included Tony winners Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth as, respectively, the green-faced, misunderstood Elphaba and the curly-locked Glinda. It is now the fourth-longest running production in Broadway history.
Wicked, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, is based on the novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire.
