Broadway Records has released a digital single from YouTube sensation Randy Rainbow for Pride. Titled "Gay!," the single parodies "Shy" from Mary Rodgers' Once Upon a Mattress.
"I know it is a shock, but I'm gay, and this is me at my gayest," says Rainbow in a statement. "Happy Pride, everyone! Especially Ronnie DeSantis!"
Rainbow is known for his political parody songs, often based on Broadway showtunes. His debut album A Little Brains, A Little Talent was released last year, including wholly original songs co-written by Rainbow with Alan Menken and Marc Shaiman.
"Gay!" is written and performed by Rainbow, with Michael J. Moritz Jr. producing, orchestrating, mixing, and mastering. The vocal arrangement is by Jesse Kissel. Rainbow is backed by Moritz Jr. on piano and synth, Adam DeAscentis on bass, Tom Jorgensen on drums, Ryan Saranich on saxophone, Andrew Snapp on winds, John Lake on trumpet, and Jimmy O'Connell on trombone. The track is engineered by Jakob Reinhardt.
