Broadway's upcoming A Strange Loop will record a Broadway cast album April 10 for release later this season via Ghostlight Records and Yellow Sound Label. The Pulitzer-winning musical is set to begin performances at Broadway's Lyceum Theatre April 6.
The Broadway album will be the work's second, following the Off-Broadway cast album released following its world premiere production at Playwrights Horizons, produced in collaboration with Page 73 Productions, in 2019.
The work centers on Usher, a young, Black, gay theatre writer grappling with his toxic inner thoughts while trying to write a musical about a young, Black, gay theatre writer grappling with his toxic inner thought while trying to write a musical about... and on and on.
The Broadway production and its album will feature Antwayn Hopper, James Jackson, Jr., L Morgan Lee, John-MIchael Lyles, John-Andrew Morrison, and Jason Veasey reprising their performances from the Off-Broadway production, along with newcomer Jaquel Spivey as Usher (a role originated by Larry Owens Off-Broadway).
Stephen Brackett (Be More Chill) directs the production, with choreography by Raja Feather Kelly, a set by Arnulfo Maldonado, costumes by Montana Levi Blanco, lighting design by Jen Schreiver, sound design by Drew Levy, music direction by Rona Siddiqui, orchestrations by Charlie Rosen, and casting by The Telsey Office's Destiny Lilly.
The Broadway cast album is produced by Michael Croiter and Michael R. Jackson, with Kurt Deutsch and Barbara Whitman as executive producers and Rosen as co-producer.
A Strange Loop is produced on Broadway by Barbara Whitman along with Page 73 Productions, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, Playwrights Horizons, and Rona Siddiqui.
