Urie, who rose to fame playing Marc St. James on the ABC series Ugly Betty, made his Broadway debut as Bud Frump in the 2011 revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Since then, he has been seen on the Main Stem in Torch Song, Bess Wohl's Grand Horizons, Douglas Lyons' Chicken & Biscuits, and the 2023 revival of Spamalot.

Urie's film and television appearances also include roles in Younger, Modern Family, The Good Wife, Workaholics, Hot in Cleveland, Single All the Way, Maestro, Swan Song, Summoning Sylvia. Most recently, he can be seen in season two of AppleTV+'s Shrinking, which premiered October 15; and alongside Michael Keaton, Mila Kunis, and Andie MacDowell in the new film Goodrich, which hit theatres October 18.
