The Royal Court Theatre production of Oli Forsyth’s Brace Brace, which began previews at the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs October 3, officially opens October 9 for a limited engagement through November 2.
Directed by Daniel Raggett(Accidental Death of An Anarchist), the cast includes Phil Dunster (Ted Lasso), Craige Els (Just For One Day), and Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts).
In Brace Brace, a man hijacks a plane, and the plane begins to fall. Back
on the ground, survivors Ray and Sylvia struggle to reconcile their
responses to this life-changing event.
In an earlier statement Dunster said, “I’m
a very lucky boy. Performing at the Royal Court has, of course, always
been a total dream of mine, and to be doing it alongside the brilliant
Anjana Vasan, under Dan Raggett’s watchful eye and Oli Forsyth’s
pulsating script does feel like an embarrassment of riches.”
The production is designed by Anna Reid with lighting design by
Simeon Miller, sound design by Paul Arditti, fight direction by Alex
Payne, and casting by Arthur Carrington.
Playwright Forsyth is
this year’s recipient of the Jerwood New Playwright accolade. He is also
the recipient of the inaugural Davidson PlayGC Bursary, supported by
PlayGC Theatre Company and the Alan Davidson Foundation.
Surrounded by period-accurate, 19th-century holiday decorations lit via candlelight, the 70-minute production is based on Dickens' own script of the classic.
The play comes on the heels of a broader cultural conversation about Dahl's work and the prejudice that was embedded in many of his most beloved stories.
