Musical Theater Factory has announced that drag performers Peppermint and Theydy Bedbug will host the company's 10th anniversary event The Factory Function: A Party for the Decade. The May 20 celebration will take place at THC NYC: The House of Cannabis.
MTF is a development hub for new musicals. Founded in 2014 by actor Shakina Nayfack, the factory has hosted workshops and readings of A Strange Loop, Be More Chill, and the currently running The Lonely Few.
The 10th anniversary celebration will include performances from Princess Lockerooo + Harold O'Neal and the Waack dancers (Tytus Larue James Gibson-Jackson, Ernest Allen, and JADA - William Bailey), Simón Gómez Villegas, Zeniba Now, DeShawn Jenkins, as well as Nick Martinez + Yahir Montes performing a piece from John-Michael Lyles and David Gomez' new musical in development Shoot for the Moon.
Peppermint made history as the first transgender person to originate a role on Broadway in the 2018 musical Head Over Heels. They are also a runner-up on the ninth season of RuPaul's Drag Race. Theydy Bedbug is the founder and director of the Drag Performance program at Brooklyn Arts Exchange. They are currently developing a solo show KeepSake as part of their Queer|Art Fellowship.
