Regional News Paper Mill Playhouse 2024-2025 Season Includes Take the Lead World Premiere Plus The Little Mermaid

The Tony-winning regional theatre in Millburn, New Jersey, will present five musicals in the upcoming season.

The Tony-winning Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey, has announced its 2024–2025 season, which will feature five musicals, including a world premiere and a Disney favorite.

The new season will launch with the Tony-winning Broadway hit Jersey Boys. Paper Mill will be the first New Jersey theatre to originate a production of the biomusical featuring the music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. The production will be presented October 2–November 3.

Irving Berlin's White Christmas will usher in the holiday season, running November 27–December 29. The stage production is based on the classic 1954 film of the same name. 

The new year will see the new musical Mystic Pizza. Paper Mill favorites Sandy Rustin and Casey Hushion are collaborating on the piece with Rustin writing the book and Hushion directing. The musical features a score of '80s and '90s pop hits originally recorded by Cyndi Lauper, John Cougar Mellencamp, Wilson Phillips, The Bangles, Belinda Carlisle, Huey Lewis and the News, Debbie Gibson, and Bryan Adams, among many others. Connor Gallagher will choreograph. Mystic Pizza runs January 29–February 23, 2025.

In the spring, Paper Mill will present the world premiere of Take the Lead. Based on the 2006 film starring Antonio BanderasTake the Lead tells the true story of Pierre Dulaine, who brought ballroom dance into New York City schools. Blending ballroom and hip-hop dance and music, the new musical will feature direction by Christopher Gattelli and choreography by Gattelli with Jennifer Weber and Maria Torres. The score is by Elliah Heifetz and Zeniba Now, and the book is by Robert Cary and Jonathan Tolins. Music production is by !llmind. Take the Lead will run March 29–April 27.

The season will conclude with the Disney favorite The Little Mermaid, featuring a score with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn SlaterThe Little Mermaid will run May 29–June 29.
