Broadway and West End favorite Michael Ball will star in a new, reimagined revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Charles Hart, and Don Black's Aspects of Love in London's West End. The new production from director Jonathan Kent will begin performances May 12, 2023 at the Lyric Theatre, with opening night set for May 25.
Based on David Garnett's 1955 novella of the same name, Aspects of Love follows the tangled love story of a young man who has an affair with an older actress who later marries his uncle, with whom she has a daughter who falls for the young man years later. A success in London's West End, the piece proved short-lived when it made the jump to Broadway, running just 377 performances.
In the years since, a number of productions have been staged, mostly abroad, making revisions to the musical, including a 2007 U.K. tour, a 2010 London revival at Menier Chocolate Factory, and a 2018 U.K. revival at Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester. Lloyd Webber compiled a "Definitive Script" in 2014, comprising elements of the various revisions of the work. Kent's revival will re-imagine the musical as a chamber work, though the version of the script and score being used remains unclear.
"We are just at the start of our journey, so the big question is will I be singing my favorite song, 'Love Changes Everything'—what do you think? All will be revealed soon...," Ball teases in press notes.
The upcoming revival is produced by Nica Burns.
