Broadway star and soprano Meghan Picerno will perform in concert with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra December 1-3. The December 2 concert will stream live via YouTube and the DSO's online streaming platform.
Picerno will perform songs by Leonard Bernstein, including favorites from West Side Story and Candide. The orchestra will also play selections from George Gershwin and Marsalis’s Blues Symphony, honoring works that have defined the American sound.
With her roots both in opera and musical theatre, Picerno starred in Hal Prince's final production of Candide at the New York City Opera in 2017 before embarking on the Love Never Dies tour, taking on the role of Christine Daaé. Picerno then went on to star on Broadway as Christine in Phantom of the Opera, reopening the show following its pause during the COVID-19 shutdown. Picerno has starred in a number of operas, including Rigoletto, Massenet's Cendrillon, Les contes d'Hoffmann, Die Fledermaus, and more.
The concert will be held at Orchestra Hall December 1 and 2 at 8 PM and December 3 at 3 PM.
