Lisa Sanaye Dring's Sumo makes its world premiere at La Jolla Playhouse September 26. The play, presented by Ma-Yi Theater Company in partnership with the San Diego company, will run at La Jolla Playhouse through October 22. Ralph B. Peña directs. 

Centering on an elite sumo training facility in Tokyo, the play follows six men as they practice, eat, love, play, and ultimately fight. The production stars Kris Bona, Michael Hisamoto, Earl T. Kim, Ryan Nebreja, David Shih, Miller Tai, Scott Keiji Takeda, Adam Tran, and Viet Vo, with instrumentalist and composer Shih-wei Wu as Taiko Drummer and Composer.

Sumo features scenic design by Wilson Chin, costume design by Mariko Ohigashi, lighting design by Paul Whitaker, sound design by Fabian Obispo, projection design by Hana Kim, wig and hair design by Alberto "Albee" Alvarado, intimacy staging and co-fighting design by Chelsea Pace, cultural/Martial Arts consultation and co-fight direction by James Yaegashi, dramaturgy by Alice Tuan, and casting by TBD Casting Co.; Stephanie Yankwitt, C.S.A. Marie Jahelka serves as production stage manager, and Kira Vine serves as assistant stage manager.
