Manhattan Mayhem will release in April.

Legendary, 91-year-old theatrical press agent, radio host, and activist David Rothenberg will release a book April 2, titled Manhattan Mayhem. The tome will be a collection of short fiction inspired by Rothenberg's nine decades of life.

“I began writing these short stories during the pandemic, but most of them had been floating around in my head for years,” says Rothenberg in a statement. "The stories are, at once, a mix of fact and fiction, most of them containing a little bit of both. My first novel, read in the third grade, was Toby Tyler or 10 weeks in The Circus. Since then, I have always had a book in my hand or my back pocket. Reading books took me around the world. As a result, I have never been lonely. Novels, biographies, and political tracts have been my company. I hope the stories in this book will be your companion for a time."

Rothenberg will celebrate the book's release April 2 with an event at Castle on 140th Street. The event will feature a reading from the book and discussions between Rothenberg and friends, including Christine Ebersole, James McGreevey, JoAnnePage, Stanley Richards, Casimiro Torres, Richard Hoehler, and more. A second event will be held at Ernie O'Malley's April 14.

The theatrical icon's storied career included working on the original production of HairBeyond the Fringe, Sir John Gielgud's The School for ScandalNight of the IguanaThe Birthday PartyBlue Man GroupTony and Tina's Wedding, and many more. Rothenberg has also been a radio host, a newspaper columnist, and politician.
