Bambif*cker/Kaffeehaus (Off-Broadway at The Brick). Bambif*cker/Kaffeehaus is based on an unlikely duo of works by the Viennese-Jewish author Felix Salten: the pornographic faux memoir, "Josefine Mutzenbacher, The Life Story of a Viennese Whore," and his arguably more famous novel, "Bambi, A Life in the Woods." If/Then (Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre). If/Then, the new musical about choice and chance, stars Idina Menzel as a woman starting her life over in New York City. Directed by Michael Greif, the show features music by Tom Kitt and a book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey. The cast also includes LaChanze, Anthony Rapp, James Snyder, Jerry Dixon, Jenn Colella, Jason Tam, Tamika Lawrence and Jackie Burns. According to the creators, "If/Then is a contemporary new musical that follows two distinct storylines in the life of Elizabeth, a city planner who moves back to New York to restart her life in this city of infinite possibilities. When her carefully designed plans collide with the whims of fate, Elizabeth's life splits into two parallel paths. Paint Your Wagon (Off-Broadway at New York City Center). Keith Carradine and Alexandra Socha co-star in the New York City Center Encores! staging of the 1951 Lerner and Loewe musical Paint Your Wagon. Directed by Marc Bruni, Paint Your Wagon features music by Frederick Loewe and book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner. The cast also features Jenni Barber, Robert Creighton, Caleb Damschroder, Justin Guarini, Nathaniel Hackmann, Robyn Hurder, Melissa van der Schyff, Scott Wakefield, William Youmans, Darien Crago, Steve Czarnecki, Nicolas Davila, Casey Garvin, Shonica Gooden,Timothy Hughes, Naomi Kakuk, Justin Keyes, Jenny Laroche, Melissa Hunter McCann, Harris Milgrim, Kevin Munhall, Kristin Piro, Robbie Roby, Jason Simon, Kevin Vortmann, Nicholas Ward and Mikey Winslow. Paint Your Wagon, according to Encores!, is "a rousing 1951 musical about a dreaming gold prospector (Carradine) whose daughter (Socha) finds gold—and love—changing their lives forever." The Women's Project Theatre world premiere of Bright Half Life, a play about two women in love by Pulitzer Prize nominee Tanya Barfield, is directed by Leigh Silverman. The romance stars Rebecca Henderson and Rachael Holmes. According to press notes, "Erica meets Vicky. Vicky marries Erica. Lives collide. Rewind. Pause. Fast forward. The Events (Off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop). The Events, a new play by David Greig that was inspired by community violence, features Neve McIntosh and Clifford Samuel, reprising their roles from the 2013 London and touring productions, respectively. "Award-winning Scottish playwright David Greig's The Events follows a community’s search for compassion, peace and understanding in the wake of unthinkable violence," press notes state. "Delving into faith, politics and reason, Ramin Gray's internationally acclaimed and theatrically inventive production features a soaring soundscape and a different community choir at each performance, drawn from diverse communities throughout the tri-state area." Rasheeda Speaking (Off-Broadway at The Pershing Square Signature Center). The New Group's Off-Broadway production of Rasheeda Speaking by Joel Drake Johnson stars Tonya Pinkins and Dianne Wiest under the direction of Cynthia Nixon. Rasheeda Speaking, a New York premiere that examines racial tensions in the workplace, also features Patricia Conolly and Darren Goldstein. According to the New Group, "Despite their differences, Ileen (Wiest) and Jaclyn (Pinkins) have developed a real bond in the six months they’ve worked together at the front desk of Dr. Williams' office. When the doctor decides to get rid of Jaclyn, he enlists Ileen to help him find fault with her. Jaclyn, sensing betrayal, turns the tables, unleashing a chilling power struggle in this incisive and crisply funny look at the unspoken tensions buried inside our 'post-racial' America." Between Riverside and Crazy (Off-Broadway at Second Stage's Tony Kiser Theatre). Second Stage Theatre presents the Atlantic Theater Company production of Stephen Adly Guirgis' Between Riverside and Crazy. Directed by Austin Pendleton, the production stars Stephen McKinley Henderson, who reprises his critically acclaimed performance as Walter "Pops" Washington. The cast also includes Victor Almanzar, Elizabeth Canavan, Rosal Colón, Liza Colón-Zayas, Ron Cephas Jones and Michael Rispoli. According to Second Stage and Atlantic Theater Company, "City Hall is demanding more than his signature, the Landlord wants him out, the liquor store is closed — and the Church won’t leave him alone. For ex-cop and recent widower Walter 'Pops' Washington and his recently paroled son Junior, the struggle to hold on to one of the last great rent stabilized apartments on Riverside Drive collides with old wounds, sketchy new houseguests, and a final ultimatum in this dark comedy from the Tony nominated author of The Motherf*ucker with the Hat and Jesus Hopped the A Train.
