American Idol season two finalist Kimberley Locke will star in a new production of Summer: The Donna Summer Musical aboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship Norwegian Prima, setting sail in August.
Locke will lead the cast as Diva Donna opposite Dutch actor Valerie Curlingford as Disco Donna and D’Nasya Jordan as Duckling Donna.
"It is an incredible honor to play Donna Summer [alongside] a very talented cast in this highly-rated musical,” said Locke in a statement. “Donna Summer’s inspirational story and pioneering talent led the way for so many of today's brightest vocalists. She has left an immeasurable impact on music and culture, and I am excited to bring her story to guests around the world aboard the beautiful Norwegian Prima."
The musical features more than 20 of the artist’s hit songs, including “Bad Girls,” “Last Dance,” and “Hot Stuff,” and will be performed in the ship’s Prima Theater, which will transform into a disco.
Exploring and celebrating the life of late disco icon Donna Summer, Summer opened on Broadway in 2018 under the direction of Des McAnuff, who penned the musical’s book with Colman Domingo and Robert Cary. The original Broadway production starred LaChanze, Ariana DeBose, and Storm Lever as the musical artist throughout her life.
