Industry presentations of Richard Oberacker and Robert Taylor's new musical Angel of Arkansas are held in New York June 20–21 at New 42 Studios. Five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman directs.
Kerry Butler stars as Ruth, joined by John Pinto Jr., Ben Jackson Walker, Michael James Scott, Mauricio Martínez, Shavey Brown, James Harkness, Joel Waggoner, Makai Hernandez, Nicholas Rodriguez, Bud Weber, Chad Burris, and Nic Rouleau, who all play multiple roles.
Featuring a book, music, and lyrics by Oberacker and a book and lyrics by Taylor, Angel of Arkansas is inspired by the experiences of a young, single mother in Arkansas who in 1986 found her way to becoming a tireless advocate, activist, and care giver to untold numbers of men during the height of an unprecedented health crisis.
The creative team also includes music director Annbritt duChateau, vocal designer AnnMarie Milazzo, sound designer John Shivers, scenic designer Beowulf Boritt, lighting designer Ken Billington, costume designer Alejo Vietti, orchestrator Daryl Waters, music supervisor and arranger Sonny Paladino, and score supervisor Jacob Fjeldheim.
Casting is by Jason Thinger of Jim Carnahan Casting. Johnny Milani is the production stage manager with general management by Live Wire Theatrical.
