An invitation-only industry reading of the new musical The Ladies Man is held November 3 in New York.
Directed by Matt DiCarlo with music direction by Ben Cohn, the cast features Kate Rockwell as Mom, Anthony Norman as Julian, and Amber Ardolino as Tina with Bryan Fenkart as Dad, John-Michael Lyles as Jamie, Alexa Moster as Holly, Gianni Palmarini as Jake/Jordan, Josh Jordan as Tommy/Lucas, Bryan J. Cortes as Andy/Sparrow, Tasia Jungbauer as Courtney, Kyra Belle Johnson as Donna, Erica Sweany as Aunt Jean, Peter Dager as Vinnie, Wes Zurick as Craig/Steve, and Scott Doyal as Young Julian.
With music and lyrics by Justin Mortelliti and Shannon Hunt and a book by Mortelliti, The Ladies Man begins in the late '80s and tells the story of Julian, who is coming out and coming-of-age under the watch of strict Roman Catholicism. His search for love, God, and himself is aided by a coterie of fiercely loyal friends, as well as a generous helping of New Jersey attitude.
Mortelliti said in an earlier statement, “There is a desperate need in our world for stories
like this, stories that can save lives. Art allows us the opportunity to
be understood, to feel seen and less alone. The gay community has come a
long way, but there is still work to be done and stories to tell to
stop the pain that continues to echo through it. I feel a responsibility
to tell these stories, so that young hearts have a chance to love, be
loved and most importantly love themselves.”
