Symphony Space is set to host An Evening with Maltby & Shire and Friends June 10 at 7 PM in the Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theater. The one-night-only event marks the publication of Joshua Rosenblum's new book, Closer Than Ever, about composer David Shire and lyricist Richard Maltby, Jr.
The evening will include a conversation between Maltby and Shire, moderated by Rosenblum, and performances of the pair's collaborations, which include the Broadway musicals Baby and Big as well as the Off-Broadway revues Starting Here, Starting Now and Closer than Ever.
Featured performers include Kate Baldwin (Hello, Dolly!), Liz Callaway (Baby), Daniel Jenkins (The Connector), Joanne Lessner (Milk and Honey), Christiane Noll (Dear Evan Hansen), and Bryonha Marie (Prince of Broadway). Maltby and Shire will also perform one of their own hits.
Deniz Cordell will accompany the performances. The event is produced by Annette Jolles and Joel Fram.
Books will be available for purchase, and there will also be a book signing with Maltby, Shire, and Rosenblum.
