Long Island's Bay Street Theatre will launch their 2024 season this May with the Pulitzer Prize–winning family drama The Subject Was Roses.
Starring Emmy winner Talia Balsam and Emmy nominee John Slattery, as well as their son Harry, The Subject Was Roses takes place in The Bronx in 1946, as a family struggles to reconcile when their son returns from service in World War II. Forced to confront their hidden past and tense present, Frank D. Gilroy's complex drama will run May 28 to June 16.
The Subject Was Roses will be directed by Tony winner Scott Wittman, with additional creative team members to be announced.
Following The Subject Was Roses, Bay Street Theatre will produce a yet to be announced production June 25 to July 20, before closing out the summer season with Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein. Directed by Stuart Ross and choreographed by Gerry Mcintyre, the comedy will play August 1 through 25, with casting to be announced at a later date.
