Two-time Oscar nominee John Malkovich will star in Aleksey Igudesman's The Music Critic, in a national tour kicking off October 17 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, and continuing with stops in Los Angeles (October 20), Dallas (October 21), San Antonio (October 22), Austin (October 23), Detroit (October 25), Chicago (October 26), and New York City (October 28). This will be followed by a performance in Portland, Oregon, June 12.

In The Music Critic, John Malkovich plays a music critic who "batters, insults, and laughs at the music of composers like Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, Schumann, and more, whose works premiered to jeers and negative press for performers and composer alike."

Igudesman and longtime collaborator pianist Hyung-ki Joo will join Malkovich on the tour, along with cellist Antonio Lysy, violist Hsin-Yun Hang, and violinist Claire Wells.

Malkovich said in a statement, “I have always loved the opportunity to collaborate on The Music Critic with Aleksey Igudesman, Hyung-ki Joo, and many other gifted and thoughtful musicians. We are all happy to be back on the road, and for the first time also in the USA, participating in an evening which consists of some of the greatest compositions in the history of classical music, paired with the perhaps rather unexpected initial reactions those compositions elicited from some of the world’s renowned music critics, along with some other surprises.”

This tour had been previously planned to occur in 2020, but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
