Kanyok Arts Initiative, the NYC-based training program that bridges aspiring artists from the studio to the professional stage through a multi-disciplinary curriculum, will honor Tony-winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell at its upcoming gala.

Entitled The Future Is Now: Kanyok Arts Initiative 6th Anniversary Gala, the evening will be held April 7 at 5:30 PM at Racket NYC.

Founder Laurie Kanyok and Tyler Hanes will direct and choreograph the gala, which will feature new dance works from guest choreographer Avihai Haham, alumni, and students, along with acting and vocal performances from students of all ages.

The evening, which will also include cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and pop-up experiences, seeks to raise funds for the school to secure a larger training facility and expand upon mentorship and coaching opportunities, tuition scholarship opportunities, and career guidance and support.

Director-choreographer Mitchell received Tony Awards for Best Choreography for Kinky Boots and La Cage aux Folles. He was also Tony-nominated for Best Choreography for The Full Monty, Hairspray, Never Gonna Dance, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and Legally Blonde and for Best Direction of a Musical for Kinky Boots. He was also named the 2023 Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award in recognition of his dedication and contributions to Broadway Cares and for more than three decades of volunteer service through the arts. Mitchell is currently attached to Broadway-aimed musicals BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical and The Devil Wears Prada.
