Off-Broadway's York Theatre Company has announced the abrupt and immediate resignation of longtime Producing Artistic Director James Morgan, who has served in the position since 1997.

Though no reason has been given for the sudden departure, the news follows a Facebook post viewed by Playbill from Associate Artistic Director Gerry Mcintyre, published before news of Morgan's resignation went out to press. Mcintyre's post announces his own resignation after raising concerns about a lack of performers of color in recent York programming, including their performances of Christine Lavin and Alice Scovell's musical InunDATEd and the one-night-only Noël Coward concert celebration I Like America. In the post, Mcintyre says his concerns were met with anger and yelling.

Requests sent to York's press representatives for confirmation of Mcintyre's resignation and the allegations in his Facebook post were not answered by time of publication.

“On behalf of the board of directors of the York Theatre company, we wish James Morgan well in his future endeavors,” says York Board President Jim Kierstead in a statement. “We will soon be announcing plans for a future filled with diversity, talent, and musical theatre in order to continue our long legacy of supporting artists of all backgrounds.”
