2023 Jonathan Larson Award winner Jaime Lozano will make his Chicago concert debut with a one-night-only event held October 14 at Wirtz Center Chicago on Northwestern University's campus. The evening will feature selections from Lozano's albums Songs by an Immigrant and Songs by an Immigrant Vol. 2. Following that, Lozano will also present his musical, Desaparecidas, in a concert reading at the Wirtz Center October 18–20.
On October 14, Lozano will be joined on stage by theatre program members Alondra Rios and Anne-Sophie Lacombe Garcia, Chicago-based artists Satya Chávez and Andres J. DeLeon, and Teatro Vista Productions ensemble members Tatiana Bustamante and Tommy Rivera-Vega. The concert is presented by Northwestern University’s American Music Theatre Project (AMTP) and Teatro Vista Productions (TVP).
Then on October 18–20, as part of the Destinos, the seventh annual Chicago International Latino Theater Festival, Lozano will present his musical Desaparecidas. The new musical, which features music and lyrics by Lozano, lyrics by Florencia Cuenca, and a book by Georgina Escobar, tells the diverse stories of Mexican women from the borderlands.
