American Theater Group will present Jason Robert Brown and Alfred Uhry's Parade at Sieminski Theater in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, March 2–5, with the possibility of additional performances to be added in the coming weeks. The new production will be helmed by Tony-nominated actor-director Hunter Foster. Keith Levenson (Annie) will music direct.
The 1999 Tony Award winner for Best Score and Book, Parade tells the true story of a Jewish man living in Atlanta, Georgia, who was wrongfully accused and convicted of murdering a 13-year-old girl in his employ in 1913. The musical was recently revived as New York City Center's gala production starring Ben Platt and Micaela Diamond.
Foster is best known for starring on Broadway in such shows as Little Shop of Horrors, Urinetown, and The Producers, but has in recent years shifted his career more towards directing. He helmed Brown's The Bridges of Madison County at New Jersey's Axelrod Performing Arts Center in 2022, and is the former Artistic Director of New York's Redhouse Arts Center.
"We are thrilled to present this important, compelling piece of theatre," says ATG Producing Artistic Director Jim Vagias in a statement. "Its themes of bigotry and political injustice remain ever so relevant today, and its magnificent score and masterful script allow for a moving examination of the darkest corners of American history."
This production of Parade was licensed by Music Theatre International (MTI).
