Cabaret & Concert News Funny Girl's Julie Benko to Return to Birdland; Concert Will Stream Live

Benko will be joined by a band led by her jazz pianist spouse Jason Yeager.

Julie Benko, who performs every Thursday evening as the alternate for Lea Michele's Fanny Brice in the Broadway revival of Funny Girl, will return to Birdland Jazz Club February 6 at 7 PM ET. The performance will also be live streamed.

Benko will be joined by her band Euphonic Gumbo, including her jazz-pianist spouse Jason Yeager, Michael O’Brien on bass, Jay Sawyer on drums, Andy Warren on trumpet, Evan Christopher on clarinet, and Ron Wilkins on trombone. 

Celebrating Mardi Gras, the evening will include selections from Hand in Hand, Benko and Yeager’s recent album from Club44 Records (“Louisiana Fairy Tale,” “Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans?”), Benko’s debut album Introducing Julie Benko (“Love for Sale,” “Tomorrow Is a Day for You”); and other classics (“Basin St. Blues,” “When the Saints Go Marching In”). 

Benko has also appeared on Broadway in Fiddler on the Roof and Les Misérables
