The 92nd St. Y New York School of Music has announced its inaugural 92NY Cabaret Conference, which is set for July 22-26. Tony winner Faith Prince and cabaret performer and historian Michael Kirk Lane will lead the conference, which will train aspiring performers in the art of cabaret.
Numerous artists and cabaret professionals will also be on hand during the week, including musical directors Alex Rybeck and Yasuhiko (Yaz) Fukuoka as well as John Bronston, Natalie Douglas, Jeff Harnar, Carolyn Montgomery, Sidney Myer, Tracy Stark, Billy Stritch, and Jennifer Ashley Tepper.
The conference will include personal coaching, panel discussions and informative sessions, and workshops covering topics like "Connecting to Your Lyric," "The Business of Cabaret," and more. Fifteen performers will be chosen to work directly with the teaching artists based on a pre-screening form, and anyone is eligible to audit by day or for the full week.
“I’m delighted to return to 92NY after my weekend Cabaret Workshop last fall for the first week-long conference," Prince said in a statement. "People are always asking what I'm going to do when I teach. I'm trying to help someone else discover their point of view, develop a deeper connection to their material—at the end, it should be as if these are your own words you are performing.”
