Tickets will go on sale exclusively to American Express card members at 10 AM January 17 through 9:59 AM January 24. An Audience Rewards pre-sale will follow January 24 at 10 AM through 9:59 AM January 26 before tickets go on sale to the general public January 28 at 10 AM.

Tony nominee Alex Timbers directs the stage adaptation of Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film. The show, which (like the movie) weaves original songs with pop standards), will feature a book by Tony winner John Logan. Sonya Tayeh will choreograph.

While casting for the Boston engagement has not yet been announced, a recent lab presentation starred Aaron Tveit and Tony winner Karen Olivo as the poet Christian and the singer and courtesan Satine (played on screen by Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman), respectively.

The musical is expected to transfer to Broadway following its world premiere engagement, though no word yet on a theatre or dates.

Moulin Rouge! marks the return of a tradition of Broadway shows playing out-of-town tryout engagements at the Colonial, which served as the birthplace of such musicals as Anything Goes, Annie Get Your Gun, and Follies. In September 2015, Emerson College announced it would close the historic venue, with potential plans for its future including converting it into a dining hall (this proposal was later scrapped). The U.K.- based Ambassador Theatre Group announced its acquisition of the theatre last year.
