Regional News Christine Dwyer Will Lead U.S. Premiere of Maggie Musical at Goodspeed

Mary Francis Moore will direct the musical about home, family, and community.

Casting is set for Goodspeed Musicals' U.S. premiere of Maggie, which will play the East Haddam, Connecticut, venue August 23–October 20.

Mary Francis Moore will direct a cast led by Christine Dwyer (Wicked) in the title role, Terra C. MacLeod (Chicago) as Betty, Sophia Clarke as Sadie, Kennedy Caughell (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) as Jean, Wes Williams as Tommy, Jeffrey Kringer (About Love) as Shug, Sam Primack (Dear Evan Hansen) as Wee Jimmy, Ryan Duncan (Gettin’ the Band Back Together) as Uncle Charles, and Matt Faucher (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) as Tam.

The ensemble will feature Jodi Bluestein, Anthony Festa (Desperate Measures), Lyda Jade Harlan, Brian Michael Hoffman (Seussical), Joshua Kring, Emma McGlinchey (Titanique), Paul Scanlan, Sonya Venugopal (Life of Pi), and Nick Ziobro. Swings are Jenna Bienvenue and Nathan Quay Thomas.

Maggie has a book by Toronto-based playwright and lyricist Matt Murray and Scottish-born singer-songwriter Johnny Reid; music by Reid, Murray, and Bob Foster; and lyrics by Reid and Murray. In the musical a Scottish widow’s unbreakable love for her three sons is tested over a 20-year period.

The upcoming production will also have choreography by EJ Boyle, music supervision by Bob Foster, music direction by Adam Souza, scenic design by Beowulf Boritt, costume design by Emily Rebholz, lighting design by Japhy Weideman, sound design by Jay Hilton, wigs and hair design by Tommy Kurzman, and orchestrations by Bob Foster. Casting is by Paul Hardt/Hardt Casting.

Maggie was commissioned by Halo Entertainment, developed at the Canadian Music Theatre Project at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario, and made its world premiere at Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton, Ontario.
