Chilina Kennedy, Katherine Winter, and Michael Scott have teamed up to launch a new theatre company, fittingly named New York Theatre Company.
The production company, which also serves as an artist collective, will be led by Kennedy (The Great Gatsby, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) as creative director, with Winter (The Verdon Fosse Legacy, Chasing Andy Warhol) serving as founder and creative producer, and Scott (The Hills of California, Wild About You) serving as executive producer. Julian Lokash (Parade, Tectonic Theater Project) is the artistic coordinator.
“We want to create a space where artists and audiences feel challenged and inspired,” says Kennedy. “Our productions will be collaborative and unconventional—the kind of theatre that can be both entertaining and galvanizing. Theatre can be both an art and a catalyst for compassion.”
The Artist Collective unites multi-hyphenate theatremakers, with the inaugural company including performers, directors, writers, designers, and producers whose work has previously been seen on Broadway and Off-Broadway. NYTC's Founding Members include Bianca Bulgarelli, Josh Davis (Paradise Square, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical), Sarah Hogewood (Indecent, The Leading Lady Club), Cooper Howell (Cats: "The Jellicle Ball", Penelope), John Kroft (Dan Cody’s Yacht, The Weak and the Strong), Douglas Lyons (Chicken and Biscuits, Fraggle Rock), Ashley En-fu Matthews (Rock of Ages, Pacific Overtures), Caitlin McNeilage (A Midsummer Night's Dream, Barbie the Movie: in Concert), Rachelle Rak (BOOP! the Musical, Dance Moms), Sophia Ramos (Buena Vista Social Club, Party People), Kate Rigg (Birth of a nASIAN, Happy Lucky Golden Tofu Panda Dragon Good Time Fun Fun Show), Chris Ryan (The Present, Gross Und Klein), Hannah Snow (Pedaleando Hacia El Cielo, Carnival Of The Animals), and Josh Zacher (The Prom, A Chorus Line).
