Million Dollar Quartet Christmas, a holiday reimagining of the 2010 Tony-nominated musical Million Dollar Quartet, will return with a multi-city national tour beginning November 17 at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, Delaware.
The tour, now in its third year, will feature Alex Swindle as Elvis, Bill Scott Sheets as Johnny Cash, Garrett Forrestal as Jerry Lee Lewis, Kurt Jenkins as Carl Perkins, Kathleen Macari as Dyanne, Peter Kendall as Sam Phillips, Nathan Yates Douglass as Brother Jay, and Sean Preece as Fluke, along with understudies Brynn Smith-Jenkins, Jonathan Acorn, and Michael Potter. Scott Weinstein directs.
Million Dollar Quartet's Tony-nominated book writer Colin Escott and original orchestrator Chuck Mead reunited with original producer Madison Wells Live to create this new musical inspired by the true story of the December 1956 homecoming of rock ‘n’ roll newcomers Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley as they reflect on Christmases past, present, and yet-to-come at a moment when no one knew if rock 'n' roll was a fad or a revolution.
The show's holiday edition features a new
book with holiday hits and chart-toppers “Jingle Bell Rock,”
“Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Blue Christmas,”
“Santa Claus Is Comin‘ to Town,” “Ring of Fire,” “Santa Baby,” “Run Run
Rudolph,” and more. The musical made its world premiere in 2021 at The
Phoenix Theatre Company, ahead of a national tour that same year.
Million Dollar Quartet has a book by Escott and Floyd Mutrux; the latter conceived and originally directed the musical. The show won a Tony Award for Featured Actor Levi Kreis
as Jerry Lee Lewis and received Tony nominations for Best Musical and Best Book
of a Musical, a Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Musical Revue, and
three Drama League nominations, including Distinguished Production of a
Musical and two Distinguished Performance nominations.
The show debuted
in Chicago and later arrived on Broadway in 2010. The New York
production subsequently transferred Off-Broadway, where it ended its run
in June 2011.
Million Dollar Quartet Christmas will also feature scenic design by dots, lighting design by Ryan J. O’Gara, sound design by Diego Garzón, and costume design by Izumi Inaba.
The production’s general manager is Evan Bernardin Productions and is booked by Broadway & Beyond Theatricals/BBT.
The tour is scheduled to continue through December 23 with a final stop at the First Interstate Center for the Art in Spokane, Washington. Click here for the complete itinerary.
