New York City Center has announced a new round of principal casting for the Encores! Dear World!, running March 15–19 at the NYC venue.
The week-long revival will include Tony nominee Brooks Ashmanskas (President), Andréa Burns (Constance), Tony nominee Christopher Fitzgerald (Sewerman), Ann Harada (Gabrielle), Kody Jauron (Artiste), Phillip Johnson Richardson (Julian), and Samantha Williams (Nina), alongside previously announced star Donna Murphy.
Murphy will lead the company as Countess Aurelia, who leads a motley band of outcasts to save their Chaillot neighborhood in Paris from a group of greedy bankers. Josh Rhodes will direct and choreograph. Based on Jean Giraudoux's The Madwoman of Chaillot as adapted by Maurice Valency, the work features a score by Herman, including such songs as "Kiss Her Now" and "Each Tomorrow Morning," and a book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. The work played a brief run on Broadway in 1969 starring Angela Lansbury in a Tony-winning performance.
Complete casting will be announced at a later date.
The Encores! season also includes Lionel Bart's Oliver! with Into the Woods director and Encores! artistic director Lear deBessonet at the helm, running May 3–14; and The Light in the Piazza, starring Ruthie Ann Miles, running June 21-25.
