Broadway News Brody Grant, Sky Lakota-Lynch, Brent Comer, Jason Schmidt Will Be The Outsiders on Broadway

Previews of the new musical will begin in March 2024 at the Jacobs Theatre.

Initial casting has been announced for the Broadway premiere of the new musical The Outsiders, beginning previews at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre March 16, 2024, prior to an official opening April 11.

Three of the leads will be making their Broadway debuts: Brody Grant as Ponyboy, Brent Comer as Darrel, and Jason Schmidt as Sodapop. Sky Lakota-Lynch (Dear Evan Hansen) will return to Broadway in the role of Johnny. All four actors were seen in the La Jolla Playhouse premiere earlier this year. Additional Broadway casting will be announced.

Based on the novel by S.E. Hinton and Francis Ford Coppola’s motion picture of the same name, the musical adaptation features a book by Adam Rapp with Justin Levine and music and lyrics by Jamestown Revival (Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance) and Levine.

The Outsiders also has music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Levine, choreography by Rick Kuperman and Jeff Kuperman, and direction by Danya Taymor.

The Outsiders is set in 1967 Tulsa, Oklahoma, as Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade, and their chosen family of "outsiders" are in a fight for survival and a quest for purpose in a world that may never accept them. Read reviews for the La Jolla run here.

The La Jolla cast was led by Grant as Ponyboy, Lakota-Lynch as Johnny, Daniel Marconi as Randy, Kevin William Paul as Bob, Comer as Paul, Ryan Vasquez as Darrel, Da'Von T. Moody as Dallas, Schmidt as Sodapop, Trevor McGhie as Two-Bit, Piper Patterson as Cherry, and Kiki Lemieux as Marcia.

The Outsiders will also feature scenography by AMP featuring Tatiana Kahvegian, costume design by Sarafina Bush, lighting design by Brian MacDevitt, sound design by Cody Spencer, projection design by Hana Kim, and music direction by Matt Hinkley. Casting is by Tara Rubin Casting's Xavier Rubiano.

The Araca Group, American Zoetrope, Olympus Theatricals, Sue Gilad and Larry Rogowsky, and Angelina Jolie are producing. General management is by 321 Theatrical Management.
