The Broadway-aimed The Griswolds’ Broadway Vacation, The Musical—based on characters from the Warner Bros. Vacation franchise—will have a developmental work session in Manhattan June 6-July 1, according to an Equity casting notice.
Donna Feore will direct and choreograph the workshop with musical supervision by Greg Anthony Rassen, general management by Architect Theatrical, and casting by Tara Rubin Casting.
The new musical, as previously reported, will make its debut September 10-October 1 at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre, followed by an October 25-November 6 engagement at Houston’s Theatre Under the Stars. The production will subsequently arrive on Broadway with dates and a theatre to be announced. Casting will be announced at a later time.
Formerly known as Broadway Vacation, the new musical features a book, music, and lyrics by David Rossmer and Steve Rosen, direction and choreography by Feore, scenic design by Jason Sherwood, costume design by Tina McCartney, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, sound design by Kai Harada, music supervision and additional arrangements by Rassen, and music arrangements by Glen Kelly.
Producer Ken Davenport said in an earlier statement, "I couldn't think of a better place for the Griswolds to start their journey to Broadway than Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre, and taking a cue from this adventurous crew, continuing the developmental journey at Houston’s Theatre Under the Stars. Can't wait to throw our bags in the family truckster and head out!”
Kerry Butler, Will Swenson, John Ellison Conlee, and Asmeret Ghebremichael were among the cast of a November 2019 industry reading of the musical based on the Warner Bros. films made famous by Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo.
