Spells of the Sea, a new family musical with a book by Guinevere Govea and Anna Pickett and music and lyrics by Govea, will play the Kennedy Center Family Theater October 12–20 before arriving Off-Broadway. Details for the New York transfer are to be announced.
The production, directed and choreographed by Rachel Klein, will star Six Grammy nominee and Drama Desk Award winner Brittney Mack as The Mermaid, joined by Lance Roberts as Crank, Ryan Knowles as Dad/Pirate King, Livvy Marcus as Finley, Elisa Galindez as Princess, Celia Mei Rubin as The Doctor, Bianca Rose, and Nichalas Lancaster Parker.
The new musical follows Finley Frankfurter as she embarks on the quest for a cure when her father, a famed fisherman, is struck by the Big Bad Sickness of the Sea. The coming-of-age musical blends magic and music to tell a tale of facing fears, embracing emotions, and exploring the power of self belief.
The production will also have scenic design by Jack Golden, costume design by Cynthia Nordstrom, lighting design by Max Doolittle, sound design by Kevin L. Alexander, puppet design by Juanita Cardenas, music direction and orchestrations by Andy Peterson, and casting by Daryl Eisenberg Casting. Sharon Fallon Productions is the general manager.
