Lincoln Center Theater will bring Brian Watkins' Epiphany to its Off-Broadway Mitzi E. Newhouse Theatre for a run beginning May 19, with opening night set for June 16. Tyne Rafaeli will direct the new play, about a group of old friends gathering to resuscitate a forgotten tradition only to find themselves craving answers when the guest of honor is unusually late. The work premiered at Ireland's Druid Theatre in 2019.
The cast will include Francois Battiste (A Christmas Carol, One Night in Miami), Marylouise Burke (Is He Dead?, John), Heather Burns (The Kid Stays in the Picture), Jonathan Hadary (Golden Boy, Spamalot), Omar Metwally (Munich, Rendition), Colby Minifie (The Pillowman, Long Day's Journey Into Night), David Ryan Smith (One Man Two Guvnors), C.J. Wilson (Henry IV, All-American), and Carmen Zilles (Fefu and Her Friends).
Rafaeli will lead a creative team featuring scenic designer John Lee Beatty, costume designer Montana Levi Blanco, lighting designer Isabella Byrd, and sound designer and composer Daniel Kluger. Roxana Khan will be the stage manager.
Watkins, a 2019 Juilliard graduate, is a Juilliard Lila Acheson Wallace Playwrighting Fellow and a New Dramatists resident playwright. His works include Wyoming, Into the Earth With You, A Scavenge, My Daughter Keeps Our Hammer, and High Plains, and has been produced and developed at such theatres as Atlantic Theater Company, New York Theatre Workshop, Druid Theatre, Labyrinth Theatre, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, The Flea Theater, Ensemble Studio Theatre, and Edinburgh Fringe, among others. Watkins is also the creator and executive producer of Amazon Studios' upcoming series Outer Range.
