Industry News Breaking the Binary to Partner with Steppenwolf and Woolly Mammoth For New BTB Across America Initiative

The partnership will support theatre created by transgender, non-binary, and Two-Spirit+ (TNB2S+) artists across the regional theatre ecosystem.

Breaking the Binary Theatre, which supports transgender, non-binary, and Two-Spirit+ (TNB2S+) theatre makers across the industry, will launch a new national initiative, BTB Across America, later this Spring.

The program, which sees BTB partnering with regional theatre companies cross the United States, will support local TNB2S+ talent. The first partner will be Washington DC's Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in May, with Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre following in July.

Breaking the Binary will work with the partnered companies to help produce workshops of new plays by TNB2S+ artists based in their respective communities. The BTB Across America program is generously sponsored by Jody Falco and Jeffrey Steinman.

“We are thrilled to be packing our bags and bringing our work to TNB2S+ artists in other areas of the country who might benefit from it,” shared BTB's Founding Artistic Director George Strus in a statement. “We are grateful to the teams at Woolly Mammoth and Steppenwolf for serving as initial thought partners for this program and hope they are the first of many regional partners in the years to come.”

Breaking the Binary Theatre is currently looking for TNB2S+ artists local to Washington, DC or Chicago for the program. To become involved, please send a resume or other materials to [email protected] for consideration.
