In celebration of the International Transgender Day of Visibility, Breaking the Binary Theatre has launched a new digital publication, called Cloud Nine Zine. The online magazine features 20 works from transgender, non-binary, and Two- Spirit+ (TNB2S+) artists.

Cloud Nine Zine is currently available for free at BTB-NYC.com. It is designed by Vi Dang (she/they), who is also Playbill's Photo Assistant and an actor.

“Merriam-Webster defines ‘cloud nine’ as ‘a feeling of well-being of elation,’” said BTB Founding Artistic Director George Strus in a statement. “As a record number of anti-trans bills continue to pop up in our country a near daily basis, I am deeply moved and inspired by our TNB2S+ artists who continue to create and dream in these often-daunting times. May their work, words, and wisdom inspire you as much as it does me. Welcome to BTB’s Cloud Nine.”

Cloud Nine Zine features 10 commissioned pieces, where the artists were each given $1,000. The artists featured are Anonymous, b, Dena Igusti, Diana Oh "Zaza D,” Else Went, Ianne Fields Stewart, Jay Délise, Rad Pereira, Spencer James Weidie, and Will Shishmanian. 

Also featured in Cloud Nine Zine are Instagram commissions from BTB’s inaugural 2023 Cloud Nine commission campaign. Among the artists featured are Justin David Sullivan, L Morgan Lee, Roger Q. Mason, Nora Schell, Ty Defoe, and more. 

Cloud Nine Zine also contains more information about BTB and the company's upcoming projects. BTB is dedicated to developing the works of transgender, non-binary, and Two-Spirit+ (TNB2S+*) artists—and be a community hub for those artists. It holds an annual Breaking the Binary Theatre Festival every October.
