Brad Oscar, Telly Leung, Elizabeth Teeter, More Will Be Heard on Complete The Fantasticks Recording

Jay Records will release The Fantasticks: The First Complete Recording of the Entire Play (The Revised Version) this fall.

The recording, according to Jay President and Founder John Yap, will feature the entire Harvey Schmidt-Tom Jones score as well as all of the dialogue and speeches.

The cast will include two-time Tony nominee Brad Oscar (Something Rotten!, The Producers) as Bellomy, Telly Leung (Aladdin) as Matt, Elizabeth Teeter (Beetlejuice) as Luisa, Lewis Cleale (The Book of Mormon) as El Gallo, Tony nominee Ron Raines (Follies) as Hucklebee, and co-creator Jones as The Old Actor. Additional casting will be announced. Craig Barna is the musical director.

A modern twist on Romeo and Juliet, The Fantasticks, featuring music by Schmidt and a book and lyrics by Jones, is the quintessential story of a boy and girl who fall in love and then quickly grow apart when they realize they want to experience the world.

During its original run at the Sullivan Street Playhouse in Greenwich Village, The Fantasticks logged a record-breaking 17,162 performances. When the original production closed in 2002, news of the closing made the front page of The New York Times. In 2006, the revival opened at The Theater Center, directed by Jones. That production closed June 4, 2017, after playing 4,390 performances in the Jerry Orbach Theatre, for a combined total of 21,552 performances in New York—still the longest-running musical production worldwide.
