Ben Platt heads to the small screen this fall, leading the cast of the upcoming Netflix series The Politician. The Tony winner took to Twitter to share a teaser image of him in his campaign trail finest and reveal the comedy’s September 27 premiere date.
The Dear Evan Hansen star will play Payton, a Santa Barbara student with lofty political aspirations. Among those joining him are fellow Tony Award winner Jessica Lange, his Dear Evan Hansen mate Laura Dreyfuss, and Gwyneth Paltrow, whose attachment had been speculated since the series’ initial announcement.
The Politican marks the first show from TV honcho Ryan Murphy as part of his new deal with Netflix. He is also at work on a One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest prequel and a show on the Golden Age of Hollywood for the streaming service.
