Broadway News Ashley Loren Sets Final Performance in Broadway's Moulin Rouge! The Musical

Loren stars opposite Tony winner Aaron Tveit, who has returned to the Tony-winning production for a limited engagement.

Broadway's Moulin Rouge! The Musical will say farewell to Ashley Loren, who currently stars as the courtesan Satine, in April. The actor took to Instagram to announce that her final performance in the Tony-winning musical will be April 9 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre

The date coincides with the departure of Tony winner Aaron Tveit, who currently reprises the role of Christian; Tveit will be followed by the return of Tony nominee Derek Klena as the bohemian lover beginning April 11. 

In her post, Loren called her time with Moulin Rouge! "singular and transformativeand addressed her character: "Satine, you’ve changed me. I’ve learned more about myself in my time spent with you than I could ever express and it’s been an honor bringing you to life on Broadway for so long. Thank you for the opportunity and the lessons—for your heart, your spirit, your strength, and your resilience."

The cast also currently features André Ward, David Harris, Eric Anderson, Caleb Marshall-Villarreal, Jessica Lee Goldyn, and Oyoyo Joi.

Best Musical Tony winner Moulin Rouge!, based on the 2001 film, opened on Broadway in 2019 following a Boston tryout. The production is directed by Alex Timbers with a book by John Logan (based on the Baz Luhrmann-directed movie of the same name) and choreography by Sonya Tayeh. The score features covers of "Fireworks" by Katy Perry, "Your Song" by Elton John, and "Chandelier" by Sia, among many others. The story takes place at Paris' famed Moulin Rouge and follows the tragic love story between performer Satine and composer Christian.

The production's music team includes Justin Levine as musical supervisor, Matt Stine as music producer, and Cian McCarthy as music director. Orchestrations are by Levine, Stine, Katie Kresek, and Charlie Rosen, with dance arrangements by Levine and Stine.

Also on the creative team are Derek McLane as scenic designer, Catherine Zuber as costume designer, Justin Townsend as lighting designer, Peter Hylenski as sound designer, David Brian Brown as hair designer, and Sarah Cimino as makeup designer, with creative services by Luhrmann and Catherine Martin. Casting is by Jim Carnahan and Stephen Kopel.
